	Danseprophétiqueàl’îlebizarre est une œuvre évolutive en développement depuis 2022 à travers des résidences de recherche et des performances à l’Agora des Arts (Rouyn-Noranda), L’Annexe-A (Bellecombe), au Musée d’art de Joliette, à la Galerie B-312 (Montréal), à l’Événement PHOS (Matane), à la Fonderie Darling (Montréal) et au festival Performissima du Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (Paris).&#38;nbsp;

Conçue comme une nouvelle étape de création, l’exposition rassemble et redistribue les éléments constitutifs d’une œuvre en quête de nouveaux langages, de formes et de visions nouvelles dans un monde dévasté. En l’absence des performeurs, ce sont les matériaux qui s’animent et performent au sein d’une installation qui relève tout à la fois du théâtre, du gymnase, de la forêt, de la cathédrale, de l’arche de Noé et, bien sûr, de l’île.LIRE PLUS

The evolving work Danseprophétiqueàl’îlebizarre has been in development since 2022 through research residencies and performances at Agora des Arts (Rouyn-Noranda), L’Annexe-A (Bellecombe), the Musée d’art de Joliette, Galerie B-312 (Montreal), the PHOS Event (Matane), Fonderie Darling (Montreal), and the Performissima festival at the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (Paris).

Conceived as a new phase of creation, the exhibition gathers and redistributes the elements of a work in search of new languages, forms, and visions in a devastated world. Projet initié par Valerie Hersleven, avec le soutien des Amis du Centre Pompidou.


	Cette mission de recherche, menée au sein du Cabinet de la photographie du Musée national d’art moderne sous la direction de Florian Ebner, a eu pour objectif l’étude des œuvres se rapportant à la commande publicitaire au sein de la collection de photographies historiques du Musée, notamment de l’ancienne collection Christian Bouqueret. L’exercice a permis d’identifier plusieurs centaines de photographies à partir desquelles se dessine, partiellement, une histoire de la photographie publicitaire et des usages publicitaires de la photographie dans les années 1930 en France. La recherche s’est depuis développée vers une réflexion plus large sur les liens entre photographie, film, publicité et art jusque dans les années 1980. Une exposition sur le sujet est en cours de préparation.&#38;nbsp;✦This research project, conducted within the Photography Department of the Musée national d’art moderne under the supervision of Florian Ebner, aimed to study works related to advertising commissions within the museum’s historical photography collection, particularly from the former Christian Bouqueret collection. The investigation led to the identification of several hundred photographs, from which a partial history of advertising photography and the commercial uses of photography in 1930s France begins to emerge. Since then, the research has evolved into a broader reflection on the connections between photography, film, advertising, and art up to the 1980s. An exhibition on the subject is currently in preparation.

	Depuis dix ans, Anthony Burnham travaille à partir d’un unique objet – une construction abstraite dont il monte, démonte et remonte les composantes afin de produire des tableaux qui explorent les interstices entre le volume et le plan, la présence et l’absence, la chose et son image. Sa démarche d’atelier est à la fois intuitive et parfaitement cérébrale. L’objet est photographié, peint, dessiné, démultiplié, renversé, démantibulé, mis à plat, reconfiguré. Photographié encore. Peint encore. À force de mises en abyme, cet objet s’est récemment métamorphosé en une marionnette. C’est-à-dire non plus seulement un objet, mais un objet-sujet, un corps articulé, mobile et même animé. For ten years, Anthony Burnham has been working with a single object – an abstract structure whose components he assembles, takes apart, and reassembles to produce paintings that explore the interstices between volume and plane, presence and absence, the thing and its image. His studio approach is both intuitive and utterly intellectual. The object is photographed, painted, drawn, multiplied, dismantled, flattened, reconfigured. Photographed again. Painted again. Subjected to mises en abyme, the object recently metamorphosed into a marionette – that is, no longer an object, but an object-subject, an articulated object, mobile and even animate. It has become an actor that calls out to be handled even as it transforms its environment into a stage.

We’ve all experienced that gap between who we think we are and how others perceive us. We’ve all felt the friction between the identity assigned to us and the one we construct for ourselves. We: that is, you and me—as well as others, human or not. 
Starting from this premise, MOMENTA 2023 explores the dynamics of visibility and invisibility that shape representations of the self and the other. Il ne s’agit pas de prendre, ni seulement de donner, mais de reconnaître et d’agir en conséquence, c’est-à-dire en vue d’un bien commun, quoi qu’il nous en coûte individuellement.

	Se guérir de ce qui nous a été inculqué : qui d’entre nous n’en éprouve pas aujourd’hui l’urgence et le défi, dans un contexte où il nous faut refonder notre compréhension de l’histoire, des valeurs et des communs qui nous relient les un·e·s aux autres ? Comment nous y prendre pour réinventer nos savoirs et nos manières de vivre ? Comment ne pas renoncer à une tâche aussi vertigineuse ? Et comment entendre, malgré l’ébranlement généralisé, le besoin de régénération de celleux qui ont été meurtri·e·s par les institutions chargées de les construire ? — Faire par exemple un pas de côté par rapport à ce qui est attendu de moi. Dériver, suivre mon instinct, le bonheur d’une rencontre, l’éblouissement d’une découverte, avec entêtement. Suivre Stéphane Martelly et Claudia Brutus le long du fil transatlantique qu’elles tressent ensemble depuis deux ans. Y greffer mes propres histoires, souvenirs d’enfance, rêves de demain. To overcome what has been instilled in us: Who among us today is not feeling the urgency of this challenge, in a context where we sense the need to radically reform our understanding of the history, values, and common ties that bind us all? How do we go about reinventing our knowledge and lifestyles? How do we not give up in the face of such a staggering task?

And how can we understand, given the general turmoil everywhere, the need to recover for those who have been injured by the very institutions responsible for educating them? 	Avec l’exposition Sans toit ni loi : les cétacés du Saint-Laurent, l’artiste montréalaise Cynthia Girard-Renard pose un geste dont l’apparente simplicité traduit une puissante vision. Dans la Grande salle de la Fonderie Darling, elle a suspendu le mobile grandeur nature d’une baleine bleue. Le corps élancé du plus grand animal vivant sur notre planète – ici 21 mètres de long – devient ainsi l’étalon imaginaire de l’espace industriel. With the exhibition Sans toit ni loi: The Cetaceans of the Saint Lawrence River, Montreal artist Cynthia Girard-Renard makes a gesture which, though apparently simple, translates a powerful vision. In Fonderie Darling’s Main Hall, she has suspended a life-size mobile of a blue whale. The slender body of the largest living animal on the planet—here twenty-one metres in length—becomes the imaginary standard of the industrial space. 	Cette thèse de doctorat en histoire de l’art, dirigée par Johanne Lamoureux et soutenue en mai 2021 à l’Université de Montréal, contribue à une pensée énergétique des images. Elle s’appuie pour ce faire sur une analyse intermédiale et microhistorique des relations entre la photographie, le surréalisme, l’imprimé périodique et la publicité au tournant des années 1930.&#38;nbsp;✦The vacant metaphor. A competition of images between 1929 and 1936: photography, surrealism, periodical, advertising

This PhD dissertation in art history, supervised by Pr. Johanne Lamoureux and presented in May 2021 at Université de Montréal, contributes to an energetics of images. It is rooted in intermedial analysis of the entanglements between the photographic medium, Surrealism, illustrated periodicals and advertising at the turn of the 1930s.
