La proposition de Guillaume Adjutor Provost pour la petite galerie de la Fonderie Darling assume une posture volontairement équivoque. Elle invite les visiteurs à une expérience à la fois familière et troublante — atmosphérique, voire légèrement intoxicante, comme l’annonce le titre de Vapeurs. Un premier parcours à travers l’exposition déclenche ainsi plusieurs questions : de qui sont les œuvres présentées dans l’exposition personnelle de Provost, « en conversation avec Julie Tremble et Guillaume B. B. » ? Comment les rôles ont-ils été distribués au sein de cette conversation et quelles en sont les traces dans la présente exposition ? Qui parle dans l’espace où nous sommes ? Quelle position devons-nous, pouvons-nous, y tenir en tant que regardeurs ? Et si l’on se rappelle ce personnage qui, à distance, sur le carton d’exposition, nous provoquait du regard : qui nous regarde ?

Guillaume Adjutor Provost’s exhibition in the Darling Foundry’s small gallery takes an intentionally ambiguous stance. It offers visitors an experience that is both familiar and unsettling—atmospheric, even slightly toxic, as intimated by the title Vapeurs [Vapours]. An initial walk-through of the exhibition raises several questions: Who made which works in Provost’s solo show, which is presented “in conversation with Julie Tremble and Guillaume B. B.”? How were the roles assigned in this conversation, and what traces have they left in th◆e exhibition? Who is speaking in the space? What stance should we, can we, take as viewers? And in thinking of the character on the exhibition card who eyes us from a distance, who is watching us?
