Anette Rose élabore depuis 2006 une « encyclopédie des manœuvres » constituée d’installations vidéos aux configurations spatiales multiples qu’elle nomme « modules ». L’artiste observe le labeur routinier de production dans un contexte d’artisanat, de manufacture ou de laboratoire. Sans un mot, les caméras cadrent la chorégraphie du geste et de l’expression dans la transformation de la matière, ainsi que l’imbrication du corps et de l’outil. De module en module, Rose crée ainsi une singulière archive où l’image, le son et le mouvement reconstruisent l’intelligence tactile des savoirs et des savoir-faire.
L’exposition se déploie autour de l’action de tisser : des prises de vue à haute vitesse, enregistrant plusieurs milliers d’images par seconde, rendent visibles les processus mécaniques de tissage imperceptibles à l’œil nu ; deux perspectives simultanées sur un métier Jacquard automatisé documentent la production d’un tissu au motif floral complexe tout en offrant une image saisissante d’opérations arithmétiques binaires ; en filmant des tisserins tressant leur nid, l’artiste fait dévier notre perspective anthropocentrée tout en exposant un dispositif théâtral de mainmise sur le vivant. La danse simultanée des fils, des fibres et des herbes dans les modules dessine un arc transversal depuis la technologie la plus pointue inventée par l’humain jusqu’à celle, immémoriale, de la construction du nid par les oiseaux. Rose sculpte l’espace d’exposition en le tressant à son tour.

Since 2006, Anette Rose has been compiling an “encyclopedia of manual operations,” composed of variously configured video installations that she calls “modules.” Rose observes the routine production work that takes place within artisanal, manufacturing, and laboratory environments. Without comment, the cameras frame the choreography of gestures and expressions as materials are processed, as well as how bodies and tools are interconnected. From one module to the next, Rose creates a unique archive in which image, sound, and movement reconstruct the tactile intelligence of skill and knowledge.
The exhibition unfolds around the action of weaving: high-speed shots, recording several thousand frames per second, reveal mechanical weaving processes invisible to the naked eye; two simultaneous views of an automated Jacquard loom document the production of a fabric with a complex floral design while providing a captivating image of binary arithmetical operations; by filming weaver birds braiding their nest, Rose both shifts our anthropocentric perspective and exposes a theatrical device for controlling living beings. The synchronous dance of threads, fibres, and grasses in the modules draws a transverse arc from the most highly advanced human-made technology to the immemorial techniques of birds building their nests. Rose, in turn, sculpts the gallery space by weaving her work into it.
